Top-ranked Red Oak too much for Wister
RED OAK—Top-ranked Red Oak built a 9-2 lead after three innings and coasted to a 13-5 win over Wister in fall baseball play Thursday.
The Eagles improve to 14-2 while Wister drops to 5-5.
Red Oak jumped out to a 4-0 lead after the first inning, added a single run in the bottom of the second after Wister scored twice in the top half of the inning and then added four more in the bottom of the third.
The Wildcats trimmed the deficit to 9-5 after the top of the fifth, but Red Oak answered with a run in the bottom half of the inning and put the game in run-rule status with three runs in the bottom of the sixth to end the contest.
Dalton Patten got the win for Red Oak, pitching five innings with five hits, five runs, four earned, eight strikeouts and four walks. Chance Noah threw the final inning, allowing no hits or runs with a pair of strikeouts.
Dayson Fazekas had a pair of doubles and was 2-5 with five RBI; Austin Place doubled while going 3-4 with two RBI and a run; Denver Hamilton doubled and went 3-3 with three runs scored; Cole Nix also doubled while going 2-3; and Dusty Fazekas went 3-4 with three runs and a RBI
The Wildcats used three pitchers. Trey Krebbs started and gave up two hits and three runs, all earned, with a walk. Matthew Holzhammer followed and threw five innings, giving up 11 hits and seven runs, all earned, with five strikeouts and four walks.
Gunnar McAlester ended the game for Wister, pitching two-thirds of an inning and giving up three hits and three runs, all unearned.
Landon Thornburg homered and was 1-2 with two RBI and a run; Connar Hall doubled while going 2-3 with two runs; and Holzhammer went 2-2 with a RBI and a run.
