Poteau wraps up the regular season with wins at Heavener

Poteau closed out its regular season Monday with a pair of wins over Heavener to complete sweeps for the boys and girls.

Poteau’s girls overcame a Heavener comeback to take a 50-33 win in the opener before the Pirates defeated the Wolves in the late game, 59-43.

Heavener closes out the regular season Tuesday at home against Pocola in a Black Diamond Conference game before visiting Pocola Saturday in a 3A district tournament.

Poteau travels to Broken Bow Friday for a 4A district tournament.

The Lady Pirates (13-11) scored the first eight points of the third quarter to build a 34-18 lead. Heavener (14-9) rallied and cut the deficit to six points twice after going on a 10-0 run before Poteau closed out the contest outscoring the Lady Wolves 12-1.

Lexi Wood led Poteau with 17 points. Heavener’s top scorer was Shaelena Bacon with 17.

Poteau’s boys were in control throughout, building a 34-22 lead at the half and 51-32 at the end of the third quarter.

Jagger Dill led the Pirates (10-13) with 19 points. Trace McDaniel topped Heavener’s scoring effort with 14.
