Heavener's girls knock off Wilburton

Heavener’s girls played one of their best games of the season while the Wolves struggled against Wilburton Monday night.

Both Heavener teams are back in action Thursday at Wister.

The Lady Wolves grabbed control of the game in the second quarter and cruised to a 51-39 win while Wilburton’s boys jumped out to a huge lead early and put away the Wolves, 64-30.

Heavener’s girls improve to 6-5 while Wilburton drops to 6-4. The Diggers improve to 6-5 while Heavener’s boys fall to 1-10.

Girls

After leading by two points at the end of the first quarter, Heavener outscored Wilburton 12-2 in the second quarter to build a 26-14 lead.

The Lady Diggers cut Heavener’s lead to 38-31 with 5:36 left before Shaelena Bacon answered with a traditional 3-point play and Lexi Chick buried a 3 to put the advantage back to 13 points.

Bacon finished with 25 points to lead Heavener and Chick scored 12. Sydnee Vanderburg led Wilburton with 19 points.

Boys

Wilburton dominated the game from the middle of the first quarter until the fourth quarter, when reserves finished off the game for both teams.

The Diggers led 44-24 at the half and stretched the lead to 61-27 after three quarters.

Braxton Sullivan led the Wolves with 10 points. Kyle McAlester scored 27 to lead Wilburton, J.J. Justice had 17 and Lane Brown finished with 13.
