Heavener girls, Wister boys pick up wins Thursday

WISTER—Despite playing without their only senior, Heavener’s girls played their best game in defeating Wister while the Wildcats used a big fourth quarter to seal the win Thursday night.

Heavener’s girls were without senior Calle Dunigan, out with an injury, but still rolled to a 47-18 win. Wister’s boys finally broke the game open in the fourth quarter to complete the season sweep of the Wolves with a 58-42 victory.

The Lady Wolves improved to 7-5 while Wister’s girls fall to 4-11. The Wildcats upped their record to 7-8 while the Wolves are 1-11.

Wister hosts Arkoma Friday while Heavener visits Hartshorne Tuesday.

Girls

When the teams met earlier in Heavener, the Lady Wolves jumped out to a big lead before Wister fought back and lost only 38-33.

Heavener built another big lead Thursday, leading 16-1 at the end of the first quarter, but never let up in rolling to the win.

In addition to Dunigan, Liz Chitwood also missed the game with an injury for Heavener.

Shaelena Bacon led Heavener with 15 points while Milaya Riddley added 14.

Kate Hammons led Wister with seven points and also had a good game on defense, blocking several shots.

Boys

Heavener cut Wister’s lead to six points early in the fourth quarter and the Wildcats led 48-40 before they scored the final 10 points of the contest to break the game open.

Chayce Bingley was 6-6 on free throws during the final run and also scored a layup to account for eight of the 10 points.

Colton Terry led Wister with 15 points, Bingley added 13 and Matt Holtzhammer added 12.

Trace McDaniel had one of his best games for the Wolves, scoring 14 points while Brock Stacy finished with 10.
