Blanchard at Poteau, a closer look
Poteau will host Blanchard in a Class 4A quarterfinal game Friday night.
The winner plays the Tuttle/Hilldale winner at a neutral location next week in the semifinals.
Poteau advanced with a 16-0 win over Oologah while Blanchard won at Cache, 21-11.
The Pirates are 11-0 and won District 4A-4. Blanchard finished third in 4A-2 behind Tuttle and Bethany, the only two teams to beat the Lions this season.
Both teams have scored 419 points in 11 games for an average of 38 points per game. They both also have solid defenses with the Pirates giving up 8.6 points per game while the Lions allow 11.6 points per contest.
The two teams have not played a common opponent. Of the eight teams still alive in the 4A playoffs, six teams come from the districts of these two teams. Broken Bow and Hilldale are still alive from 4A-4 while Tuttle and Bethany are still in the playoffs from 4A-2.
The other teams still playing are Clinton and Wagoner.
Blanchard is southwest of Norman. According to Mapquest.com, the trip from Blanchard to Poteau is 213 miles.
Blanchard has won two state championships in football, in 1979 and again in 2012, when the Lions won the Class 3A state championship.
