Big second half lifts Howe's girls over Kingston

KINGSTON—Howe’s girls advanced to the championship game of the Kingston New Year’s Classic with an 84-66 win over Kingston in a matchup of top five teams.

The Lady Lions are second in Class 2A while Kingston is second-ranked in Class 3A. Howe advances to play Dale in a game featuring the top two teams in Class 2A.

Howe improved to 12-1 while Kingston dropped to 11-4.

The Lady Lions actually trailed 38-33 at the half before going on a 26-9 run in the third quarter to take the lead for good. Howe outscored Kingston 51-28 in the second half.

Jalei Oglesby led the Lady Lions with 42 points and 14 rebounds. Rachel Beames scored 13 and Sydnie Womack scored 12 points and had five assists and five steals. Makayla Twyman also had eight assists for Howe.

Britney Henderson led Kingston with 19 points.
