Obituary for Johnny Newell of Wister
WISTER--Johnny Lee Newell, 76, of Wister was born in October of 1942 in Wister and passed away May 6, 2019, in Wister.
No services are scheduled at this time. Cremation arrangements are under the direction of Dowden-Roberts Funeral Home of Heavener.
Johnny was a life-long resident of Wister, a veteran of the Army National Guard, and was a retired iron worker. He and Betty Lewis spent approximately four years living as a couple, and then married on March 28, 2019. Unfortunately, John passed away after only 39 days of marriage. The impact that he made on our family was of great joy, from all the love and happiness that he gave our mother. It takes a lot to win over a family of grown children, and John did accomplish it well. The two of them would look into each other’s eyes and you couldn’t deny their loving connection. They both beamed like lovesick teenagers, and spoke as if they were. They managed to find each other and to be loved one more time before John’s heart stopped. I have always wished for my mom to find a real love. My wish for her came true.
Surviving family members are his wife, Betty Lewis, of the home; one daughter, Lorinda Newell Badillo, of Arkansas; two step-daughters Teresa Brown of Rock Island and Toni Adams of Cameron; one son, Johhny Newell, Jr., of Fort Smith, Arkansas; two step-sons Chuck Lewis of Wister and Paul Lewis of Heavener; two sisters Sue Sutherland of Durant and Dorothy of Durant; one brother, James Newell, of Hartshorne; four grandchildren Brandy, Madison, Erica Cooper and husband Phil, and Connor; four great-grandchildren Bryley, Collin and Dawson Copper, and Parker Cooper; and numerous other family members and a host of friends.
