Obituary for John Evans
John Allen Evans, 64, of Hontubby was born March 17, 1954 in Bakersfield, California to Brandon and Della (Davis) Evans and passed away Feb. 8, 2019 in Dog Creek.
Funeral services are Friday at 9 a.m. at the Hontubby Baptist Church with Bro. David Hardin and Bro. Joey Bottoms officiating. Burial will follow at the U. S. National Cemetery in Fort Smith, Arkansas with military honors by the U. S. Honor Guard, under the direction of Dowden-Roberts Funeral Home of Heavener.
John was a long-time resident of the area, a truck driver and a member of the Hontubby Baptist Church where he taught Sunday School class. He also served on the disaster team and was a member of the Heavener Masonic Lodge #154. John was a veteran of the United States Army, where he served his country in the Vietnam Era. While serving in the United States Army, he worked as a detective for the military police working with drug dogs. John loved spending time with his family and friends. He also enjoyed riding motorcycles. John will be greatly missed by many.
Surviving family members are his wife of 48 years, Carolyn Evans, of the home; one daughter Erika Evans and husband Rodney of Cameron; one son, Brandon Evans, of Hodgen; one brother Jim Evans and wife Audra of Somerset, Kentucky; two grandchildren Brooke Burgess and husband Jonathon of Cameron, and Ashton Evans of Stillwater; and numerous other loved ones and host of friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Pallbearers are Jack Scott, Ray Freeman, Gary Alexander, Charles Liles, Denny Kelly and Kelly Burns. Honorary pallbearer is David Janway.
Viewing is Monday from 2 to 8:30 p.m., Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday from 8:30 a.m. to 8:30 p.m. The family will visit with friends Thursday from 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.
