Obituary for Ira Vinson
SPIRO--Ira Wayne Vinson, 60, of Spiro, was born Feb. 22, 1959, in Poteau to Elza and Betty (Oliver) Vinson and passed away Oct. 2, 2019 in Fort Smith, Arkansas.
Funeral services are Saturday at 2 p.m. at the Springhill Baptist Church in Howe with his cousin David Davis, Rev. Keith Stewart and Rev. Larry Stacy officiating. Interment will follow in Howe Cemetery, under the direction of Dowden-Roberts Funeral Home of Heavener.
He was a life-long resident of the area. Ira graduated from Panama High School in 1977, where he was involved in all sports and an active member of the FFA. He worked for the total of 42 years for the Rock Island and the K.C.S. Railroad. He was a member of the Brotherhood Maintenance of Way of Engineer Union, United Transportation Union and the Brotherhood of Locomotive Engineer Union.
Ira loved drag racing and was a member of the NHRA Association. He loved spending time with his family and friends and will be missed by all.
Surviving family members are his wife, Claudia (Peters) Vinson, of the home; two daughters Patricia (Vinson) Jabor of Verdigris and Mandie (Goins) Stewart of Poteau; two sisters Donna (Vinson) Maness of Fort Smith, Arkansas and Connie (Vinson) Glasco of Howe; seven grandsons Jace, Jayden, Jax, Ashton, Logan, Zaden and Hudson; and numerous other relatives and a host of friends.
Ira was preceded in death by his parents.
Pallbearers are Steve Newcomer, Mark Dunaway, Norman Willhite, David Ford, Rick Ford and Lyndell Stewart. Honorary pallbearers are his grandsons Jace, Jayden, Jax, Ashton, Logan, Zaden and Hudson, and his KCS Railroad and racing buddies.
Viewing is Friday 10 a.m. until 8 p.m. and Saturday from 9 a.m. to noon at Dowden-Roberts Funeral Home. The family will visit with friends Friday from 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.
