Obituary for Buck Griffith

VIAN--James Edward "Buck" Griffith, 81, of Vian was born Feb. 7, 1938, in Hodgen to Jewell Irene (Davidson) Griffith and Jesse Hunter Griffith and passed away June 12, 2019 at his home near Vian.

A private family memorial service will be held at a later date. Cremation is under the direction of Agent Mallory Martin Funeral Service, Inc.

Buck joined the military after graduating from Fanshawe High School and served 20 years in the U.S. Army as a tank commander. Upon retirement, he moved back to Oklahoma. He loved to camp, fish and hunt. If there was a squirrel in a tree, he had an uncanny gift of finding it. He was an expert marksman.

Through the years, he perfected grilling meats and fudge making. Kids of all ages adored him. In his younger years, he was a master at repairing bicycles for the neighborhood kids and was an accomplished small engine/lawn mower repairman. Also in his younger years, he loved fast cars and pickups and wouldn't hesitate to prove just how fast his vehicle was. In his later years, he spent his time maintaining a well manicured landscape.

Survivors are his best friend and roommate, Linda Bruton, of Vian; son Joe Griffith and wife Vicki of Autreyville, North Carolina; daughters Jody Williams and husband Lonnie W. of Heavener, Monika Benton and husband Van of Heavener, and Kristina Griffith; nine grandchildren; eight great grandchildren; sisters JoAnn Evans of Summerfield and Audrey Griffith of Calera; brothers, Bill Griffith of Sublimity, Oregon and Charles Griffith of Summerfield; and numerous nieces, nephews and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and granddaughter, Amber Smith.
