Train strikes, kills man north of Poteau

POTEAU—A train collided with a pedestrian Wednesday morning at around 10:50 a.m. on the tracks north of the Highway 112 overpass.

Poteau Police and LeFlore County EMS were dispatched to the site.

According to the news release issued by the Poteau Police Department, on arrival, patrol officers located an unidentified Caucasian male deceased on the tracks. Initial information gathered is that a Kansas City Southern train was southbound and struck the male, who was curled up, laying on the tracks between the rails.

Poteau Police Department Investigators are examining the scene and an Investigator from the Oklahoma Office of the Chief Medical Examiner has been dispatched from Tulsa. PPD Investigators will work with the ME’s Investigator, KCS Police, and other resources going forward to identify the male subject and try to find out the circumstances leading up to this incident.
