Fundraiser planned for Pam's Hateful Hussy Diner
A fundraiser is planned for Pam's Hateful Hussy Diner of Talihina after a fire broke out at the diner around 2 a.m. June 3.
"Eat a Burger for the Hussy" is planned June 13.
According to organizers, the Brown Family has helped fed the people of Kiamichi Valley for more than two generations with their homestyle cooking, fast and friendly service and smalltown prices.
"Over their many years of service, no local business owner has done more for their customers during their time of need than Pam Brown Lewis and her crew at the Hateful Hussy," organizers said.
"From a delicious pan of donated food during the loss of a loved one, to a meal for a person down on their luck or countless dollars spent on kids, local schools, churches and other charities. Pam Brown Lewis has always been there and ready and willing to help."
Organizers said now its the community's turn to help the diner.
The fire caused damages to the diner's storage area, office and walk-in cooler. The mess has been cleaned out and is now ready for repairs and equipment needed to operate the diner.
On Thursday, there will be a hamburger fundraiser for the restoration of the diner. Hamburger and hotdog plates wil be served from 11 a.m. until sold out in the parking lot west of the Talihina Visitors Center.
"Over the years some of the valley's most colorful characters have called the Hateful Hussy Home," organizers said. "Folks like Jerry Mayhaffe, Gib Baron, H. Armstrong, Joe Fry, James Toliver, J.M. Allen, Jew Potts, Jack Johnson, Cecil Brown Sr., Jerry Klaus, Dale Huddleston and a host of others have shared the 'Loafer' table, drank their coffee and shared their stories and tall tales. Let's keep that 'Loafer' table and the Hussy there for future generations to enjoy."
