STILLWATER — The Oklahoma State Cowgirl softball team (46-9 overall) opened the NCAA Stillwater Super Regional with a 6-1 victory against the Texas Longhorns.
Cowgirl ace Carrie Eberle (24-3, 1.47 ERA) got the start in the circle for OSU, throwing her 18th complete game of the season and earning her 24th victory. Eberle allowed just five hits and one earned run on the day.
Offensively, Oklahoma State was led by Alysen Febrey (2-for-3, 2 HR, 3 RBI) who launched two homers on the day to bring her season total to 18. Hayley Busby (1-for-3, HR, RBI) and Karli Petty (1-for-3, HR, 2 RBI) also contributed homers on the day.
Busby’s home run marked her 19th of the season, which leads the team and places her two long balls shy of the OSU single-season record.
Sydney Pennington also had a multi-hit day at the plate, going 2-for- 3 with a double.
OSU had seven hits on the afternoon, six of which were extra-base hits.
Texas jumped out to an early lead in the top of the first inning, but the Cowgirls were able to immediately respond with Febrey’s first home run of the game, a two-run shot that would put the Cowgirls on top for the rest of the game.
In the fourth inning, Febrey and Busby launched back-to-back homers to increase the Cowgirl lead to three runs, and in the sixth inning, Petty hit a two-run home run to extend the lead to the final score of 6-1.
Oklahoma State and Texas will face each other again tomorrow in game two of the best-of-three series. If OSU wins, they will advance to the Women’s College World Series. The game is set to air on ESPN, with first pitch scheduled for 3 p.m. CT.
