SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. – Oklahoma State’s men’s golf team opened play on Friday afternoon with an even-par 280 to stand in a tie for fourth place at the NCAA Championship at Grayhawk Golf Club.
The Cowboys’ total knotted them with Oklahoma and put them a shot out of third place held by Pepperdine at the par-70, 7,289-yard layout. Texas Tech carded a 276 team total to lead the event, while Sam Houston was second at 278.
Purdue’s Cole Bradley posted the low score of the day with a 66 to lead the individual race.
Bo Jin continued his impressive play for the Cowboys, firing a 3-under 67 to stand in a three-way tie for second place. Starting on the back nine, the freshman birdied the 11th and moved to 2-under with a birdie at the 15th. He carded his lone bogey of the outward side at the 16th before turning in 1-under 34.
Jin added a birdie at the second before carding his final bogey of the day at the seventh. He would finish with birdies at Nos. 8 and 9 to get to his 3-under total.
Sophomore Eugenio Chacarra bounced back from a tough start, which saw him 3-over par through his first three holes. He would birdie the 13th and 14th before moving back to level for the day with another birdie at the 16th. He would close his round with 11 consecutive pars to get in at even-par 70 and tied for 28th place.
Freshman Brian Stark also posted an opening 70, which included five birdies. He tallied three birdies on his closing nine to come in with a 2-under 33.
Sophomore Aman Gupta opened with a 73 to finish tied for 73rd place, while junior Austin Eckroat’s 74 tied him for 87th place.
The Cowboys will begin their second round at 8:10 a.m. (CST) tomorrow and will be grouped with Florida State and Oklahoma.
