Baseball state, regionals start Thursday

Baseball makes a big return Thursday for LeFlore County teams.

Wister is playing in the Class A state tournament while three other county teams are hosting regionals.

The Wildcats (26-5) and ranked fourth in the state play fifth-ranked Sterling (31-4) at 1 p.m. in a quarterfinal game at Shawnee High School. The winner advances to the semifinals to play the Canute/Dewar winner Friday at 11 a.m., also at Shawnee High School.

Poteau (24-11) is hosting a Class 4A regional and plays Perkins-Tryon (16-14) at 11 a.m. The two teams played March 27 in the McLoud Tournament with the Pirates winning, 14-4.

Grove and Hilldale play at 1:30 p.m. in the other first-round game. Winners play at 4 p.m. with losers playing at 6:30 p.m.

After winning its district, Spiro (29-7) is hosting a Class 3A regional. The Bulldogs open with Meeker (11-17) at 11 a.m. Lindsay takes on Crossings Christian in the second game at 1:30 p.m. Winners play at 4 with losers at 6:30 p.m.

Howe is hosting a Class 2A regional that was moved from Latta after heavy rains earlier in the week. The Lions (27-6) go against Wyandotte (16-9) at 11 a.m. with Latta (25-8) playing Panama (14-12) at 1:30 p.m.

Winners play at 4 with the losers at 6:30.
