POTEAU – Poteau overcame an early three-run deficit to defeat LeFlore County rival Spiro in a high school baseball game Monday, 9-5.
Poteau improves to 23-9 and is scheduled to host Oktaha and Silo in a three-way Friday. Spiro is 26-7 and hosts Marietta in the bi-district tournament Thursday.
Spiro jumped ahead 3-0 and held the advantage until Poteau scored eight runs in the bottom of the third to take the lead for good.
Ben Brooks got the win for the Pirates, pitching four innings and allowing four hits, five runs, two earned, with two strikeouts and two walks. Tucket Garrett went two innings and gave up two hits and one run with a strikeout before Colton Williamson threw the final inning and struck out all three batters he faced.
For Spiro, Zander Riggs pitched 2.1 innings and gave up five hits and seven runs with a strikeout and three walks, Dakota Perdue went 1.2 innings and allowed two hits and two runs, one earned, with four strikeouts, Jordan Caldwell pitched an inning and Conner Rodgers went the final inning, striking out one and walking two.
Caden Fox homered for the Pirates and was 2-2 with two runs and a RBI, Todd Mattox doubled twice and went 2-3 with two RBI and two runs, Jagger Dill homered and finished 1-4 with three RBI and a run, Williamson homered and was 1-4 with two RBI and a run and Garrett doubled and was 1-3.
Brandon Hammontree doubled and was 2-3 with a run for Spiro, Perdue homered and went 1-1 with a RBI and a run, Cayden Mangham doubled and finished 1-2 with a RBI and Gannon Shackleford doubled and was 1-3 with a run.
