POTEAU – Stephen Mark Simmons, 67, of Poteau (formerly of Heavener) was born Jan. 1, 1954 in Poteau to James and Kathleen (Hornbuckle) Simmons and passed away Feb. 24, 2021 in Fort Smith, Arkansas.
Funeral service is 4 p.m. Monday at the Dowden-Roberts Funeral Home Chapel in Heavener. Burial will follow in Heavener Memorial Park under the direction of Dowden-Roberts Funeral Home of Heavener.
Mark was a longtime resident of the area and a heavy equipment operator in construction. He was a 1972 graduate of Heavener High School and a member of Trinity Baptist Church. He loved spending time with his family and friends. Mark will be missed by all who loved and knew him.
Surviving family members are one daughter, Erica Vanhook, of Poteau; two sons Bradley Simmons of Poteau and Josh Bottoms of Heavener; twin sister, Kathy Forehand, of Heavener; two brothers Gary Ollie and wife Kay of Poteau, and Jimmy Simmons and wife Sharon of Poteau; five grandchildren Jackson Simmons, Henry Simmons, Lincoln Simmons, Legend Vanhook and Madeleine Vanhook; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and a host of friends whom loved him very much.
He was preceded in death by his parents, James and Kathleen Simmons; and a son, James Simmons.
Pallbearers are David Ollie, Bryan Ollie, Shane Simmons, Cody Terry, Bruiser Forehand and Bradley Simmons.
Viewing is from noon to 6 p.m. Saturday, noon to 6 p.m. Sunday and 9 a.m. until service time Monday at the funeral home.
The family will visit with friends Sunday from 2 to 4 p.m. at the funeral home.
