POTEAU – Clinton used a trick play and an interception to defeat defending Class 4A state champion Poteau 17-10 in a quarterfinal game Friday night at Costner Stadium.

Clinton advances to the semifinals next week with an 8-3 record while Poteau ends its season with a 9-3 record.

After the Red Tornadoes built a 10-0 lead, Poteau fought back to get the tie after a 34-yard field goal by Ethan McBee and a 4-yard blast by Todd Mattox early in the fourth quarter. The Pirates also got a big defensive play by Colton Williamson as he stopped a Clinton drive early in the third quarter with an interception.
