Obituary for Freddie Bennett

Freddie Allen Bennett, 73, of Heavener, was born March 9, 1947 in Poteau to Haskell Allen and Mary Lou (Wiggington) Bennett and passed away Oct. 26, 2020 in Heavener.

Memorial services are 2 p.m. Saturday at Dowden-Roberts Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Frankie Brown officiating. Cremation arrangements are under the direction of Dowden-Roberts Funeral Home of Heavener.

Fred was a long-time resident of the area and a retired truck driver. He was a member of the VFW, the American Legion, Vietnam Veterans of America, and Heavener First Baptist Church.

Fred was a veteran of the United States Navy, where he served his country in the Vietnam era.  He loved spending time with his family and friends. Fred will be greatly missed by many.

Surviving family members are his ex-wife, Gail Sawatzky, of Broken Bow; one step-daughter, Sherry Tanksley, of Wister; two sons Jeffrey Bennett and wife Anne of Decatur, Arkansas, and Freddie Allen Bennett, Jr. of Springfield, Missouri; two step-sons Jody Thomas and wife Amanda of Panama, and Bobby McFatridge of Panama; three sisters Sandra Allen and husband Steven of Oklahoma City; Sherry Brown Heflin of Panama and Sheila Brown Henry of Oklahoma City; two brothers Mike Brown and wife Nancy of Arlington, Texas, and Steven Mark Brown and wife Jackie of Ocala, Florida; two step-brothers Tommy Bastin of Missouri and Lloyd Bastin of Casagrande, Arizona; eight grandchildren Hannah Bennett, Bryce Bennett, Meganlyn Perkins Francis, Sammy Wheatley, Jessy Tanksley, Charles Thomas, Joe Thomas and Linda Sue Thomas; nieces and nephews (Browns): Jennifer Perz, Kari Outenreath, Kevin Permeniter, Micheal Shane Brown, Travis Brown, Zach Brown, Chris Brown, Amey Barrett, Mitch Allen, Matt Allen, Stephanie Hailey, Amber Knight, Ashley Britton and Anglea Henry; other family (Bennetts): Larry Bennett, Eva and Frank Cocca, Russell and Ellen Bennett, Jubal and Gala Bailey, Ricki and Philip Campbell, Roxane and Donald Akeras, Rise’ Place, Leah and Dale Wilson, Connie Harrison, Jackie Bennett, Joe Bennett, Jenny Bennett, June Bandy, Regina and Bobby Pennington; his all around true friend, Don Bosley; and numerous other loved ones and a host of friends

He was preceded in death by his parents, Haskell Allen and Mary Lou Bennett; his second wife, Shirley Dunigan; his grandparents Haskell and Georgia Bennett; his step-father, Tater Ray Brown; his uncle, John Thomas “Tommy” Bennett; two aunts Norma Mattox and Doris Cowan; and a cousin, Jimmy Dawn Cowan.
