HOWE – Richard “Gene” Pottridge, 87, of Howe, was born Aug. 1, 1933 in Bates, Arkansas to Ed and Talitha (Thompson) Pottridge and passed away, surrounded by his family, Sept. 26, 2020 in Howe.
Funeral service is Wednesday at 2 p.m. at Dowden-Roberts Funeral Home Chapel in Heavener with Pastor Bobby Cagle and Pastor Cody Nix officiating. Cremation arrangements will follow, under the direction of Dowden-Roberts Funeral Home of Heavener.
Gene was a long-time resident of the area, a member of the Heavener First Baptist Church, a retired telephone lineman for the Holt’s Allied, Alltel and Windstream Company, and a veteran of the Korean War, where he served in the U.S. Army. Gene was also a member of the Heavener Masonic Lodge #154. He loved gardening, fishing, hunting and watching the St. Louis Cardinals, OKC Thunder, Oklahoma Sooners and the Arkansas Razorbacks with Janee. Gene was a loving father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, uncle, cousin, and friend. He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
Surviving family members are one daughter Janee (Pottridge) Lewis and husband Justin of Howe; two sisters Twyla Maxwell of Oklahoma City and Shirley Brothers of Plainview, Arkansas; one brother, Gary Pottridge, of Bates, Arkansas; one granddaughter Julie Anna Walsh and husband Donny of Broken Arrow; three great-grandchildren William, Bennett and Gibson Eugene Walsh of Broken Arrow; numerous other relatives, cousins and dear friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Ed and Talitha Pottridge; his wife, Joy Ann (Bennett) Pottridge; his siblings Leon Pottridge, Betty Stafford, Peggy Bennett, Doss Pottridge and Linda Hill.
The family would love to give a special thanks to Heart of Hospice and Karen McKoy for taking such great care of Gene.
Pallbearers are Buck Hunt, Billy Wilson, Justin Lewis, Jason Pottridge, Seth Pottridge, Doug Hill, Curtis Howze, Rich Hankins, Jeff Bennett, Dewayne Thompson and Donny Walsh.
Honorary pallbearers are Paul Brothers, Gene Hill, Gary Pottridge, Scott Thompson, Ricky Maxwell, Robert Maxwell, Ronny Thompson, Blaine Manifold, Jason Manifold, Ronald Owen Bennett, and all his great-grandchildren, and all of the phone company boys.
Viewing is Tuesday from 8:30 a.m. until 8:30 p.m., with the family visiting with friends from 6 to 8 p.m., at the funeral home.
